What is a Qifield?

The Qifield plays a vital role when we work on Qi, regardless of whether we are doing this through Qigong practice or through Qi therapy. And use of the Qifield is by no means limited to our work on Qi. In fact, the Qifield can be employed in everything we do in life. Having a good understanding of it so we can use it effectively can improve life in every possible way.

We have learned that Qi is in everything and is everywhere. Any physical object or being is a condensed form of Qi. The Qi of the object or being also extends outside its physical boundary and contains information of its specific qualities. The field formed by this Qi and information is what is referred to as the Qifield. Everything and every living being has its own Qifield. Not only does each person have a Qifield around his body with his own Qi and information, but each organ inside the body also has its own Qifield, every cell has its own Qifield and so on. What is more, none of these Qifields are separate. They are inclusive of one another – a large Qifield such as the Qifield of the universe contains innumerable smaller Qifields within it – and they are all connected. No matter how large or small they are or how far apart they are, they interact with one another and have influence on one another. This interaction of the Qi and information of different Qifields contributes to the changes that constantly occur throughout the universe.

Since everything in the universe is part of the total reality and has influence on, and is influenced by, everything else, we both contribute to all Qifields and are affected by them. Much of the time this happens automatically, without us giving it any thought. Most of us are unaware of Qi and information and of the influence they have on us and we have on them, and we are certainly unaware of the Qifield and our role in it. Yet human consciousness has a huge influence on Qifields. Human beings are constantly projecting their thoughts and feelings to objects and beings around them and even those that are further away. When we do this, our consciousnesses transmit Qi and information to these beings and objects.

It is often said that there are not many places on the planet that are free from human influence. Usually those who say this are speaking of man’s physical influence, but his influence on the Qifield is far more pervasive. It can be no surprise that negative thoughts and emotions ‘pollute’ our own Qifields and the Qifields around us. Whenever we go against the laws of life, we cause damage to the Qifield we are in and everything that is in it. Indeed, human consciousness has a huge impact in this context. Take the Qifield of our homes as an example. People spend a substantial amount of time in their homes, so the Qifield of the home is very much influenced by human consciousness and information. A home with loving and harmonious relationships between family members will have a very different Qifield from a home with unhappy family members or a lot of conflict. You can feel the difference when you walk into these houses, even when they are empty.

Each place has a unique Qifield with specific Qi and information according to the activities in which people engage at that place. The Qi and information of a Qifield influence everything in that Qifield. That’s why you can expect to feel different when you are in different Qifields. For example, the Qifield of a religious gathering will feel very different from the Qifield of a pub. The information from the people engaging in the activities that are carried out in such a place will gradually create a unique Qifield that will influence those who enter it in a particular way. Although a sensitive person can feel especially unwell when she has spent time in a place with a lot of negative information, anyone in this type of Qifield can still be affected to some degree, regardless of sensitivity, especially when spending time there regularly. Some people get a strange feeling after being in a place without knowing why; the negative information of the Qifield could very well be the reason.

In traditional Chinese culture, this is called Fengshui. Most people think of Fengshui as the influence of the physical environment on human life. Indeed, the purpose of Fengshui is creating a mutually enhancing relationship between humans and their living environment. However, my understanding is that the essence of Fengshui is the Qifield, i.e. the Qi and information, of a place because it is through the Qifield that the environment has its impact on us. The human consciousness that goes against the laws of nature and the laws of life is therefore the factor that can affect Fengshui most negatively. In other words, unhealthy thoughts and actions and the Qi associated with these can have a very negative effect on the Qifield. I hope you now have a clear idea of where most of your effort should go. When you try to improve the Fengshui of your home, remember that the most important Fengshui practice is working on your own consciousness.

Clearly human consciousness can and does have a major effect on the Qifield. Sadly, this usually happens in a haphazard and often negative way. However, the ability to use the consciousness in whichever way we choose is a gift that can be put to work in a way that is very positive. And we can use this gift to build Qifields for any purpose. We may use the Qifield specifically for healing (ourselves or others), but it can be used for any and every activity in which we engage, from everyday activities such as caring for children, working or just cleaning the house through to learning new information, practising Qigong, improving relationships and even helping someone who is dying. There is no limit. In fact, I can go so far as to say that this is something we should incorporate into every aspect of our lives. Of course, the purpose should follow the laws of nature and life, that is: the Qifield should be beneficial for the improvement of health and development of life of all the people who are or will be in it.
